KEN HUGHES B.E.M

The choir is mourning the sad loss on 10th November of Ken, our Musical Director for 46 years until his retirement due to ill health last year.  Some of the choir members have known Ken for all of those 46 years and some for a lot less but he had become a very good friend to all of us.  His great knowledge and love of music will be sadly missed.

Around 40 choir members sang “ Lake Isle of Innisfree” at Ken’s funeral in Blacon on 24th November.  The piece was written specially for Ken’s retirement party in October 2010 and has already become a very special item in our repertoire.

About 40 choir members enjoyed a successful workshop on Saturday [15th October] at Helsby Methodist Church .  The day was led by David Stokes from Whitchurch who taught us two pieces, “Joyful Joyful”, a very jolly piece from Sister Act 2 with some very challenging rhythms and a short piece from Pirates of Penzance called “Hail Poetry”.

The choir made a good effort at both pieces and came away stimulated by David’s unique way of teaching a piece of music.  The day was accompanied by Rachael Whitehouse at the piano.  During the lunch break members went for a walk up to Helsby Quarry in glorious sunshine.

Kelsborrow Choir took part in the 6 Choirs Festival last Saturday [1st October] at Ellesmere Port Civic Hall which was arranged by the local group of the NAC [National Association of Choirs].

We were the last to sing so spent the evening waiting but in the end did justice to “Blue skies” and “Les Miserables”. The evening was rounded up with all the choirs singing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” and “ Jerusalem ”.

We also took the opportunity to have a new choir photo taken.

The evening raised some cash for the choirs taking part and also “Help the Heroes”.

What a difference it will make to your wedding ceremony to have a large mixed choir leading the hymn singing and keeping the guests entertained during the signing of the register. We will also sing as the guests arrive if you wish.
