Ian OultonIan joined the choir tenor section as a young 17 year old and 2011 will see him hit 36 years service! He also met and married his wife and they will celebrate their silver wedding anniversary in September 2011. He has held the position of Deputy Musical Director for a number of years (with a brief absence following illness, see below), providing support to the MD and occasionally conducting pieces in various concerts.
Ian has enjoyed a long musical influence in his life from a very young age, singing solos at the age of 5 in his local Methodist Church. At one point at Grammar School he was not only in two school choirs but was learning the piano bassoon and guitar at the same time! He is still involved as an accredited worship leader in his local Methodist Church.
Sadly the instruments had to go in favour of A levels and a 33 year long Banking Career but he has found time for lead roles in a number of AmDram Musicals over the last 10 years including Prince of Egypt (Moses), Godspell (Jesus) and Jesus Christ Superstar (Judas).
2007 saw him leave Banking to take up a leadership opportunity in the Charitable sector – sadly this new direction was curtailed due to a long illness in 2008/9 but Ian is now following a new career in Financial Planning with a small local practice and learning to take exams again!
He is very keen to ensure that the Choir repertoire remains relevant to today’s audience and is able to attract a new generation of members.
