Songs from the Great War – Come & join in at Tarvin Village Fete 28th June

WW1-CentenarybThe choir will be singing at the Tarvin Village Fete  this year. As this is the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, the choir will be singing a selection of songs sung by the troops in the trenches. There will be many familiar songs, or songs with choruses which have been passed to us down over the years. Come along & listen – or even join in! More details to follow.

The Village Fete will take place in Tarvin on Saturday 28th June 2014.  The Fete will be held on the King George V Playing Field and in the Community Centre with the concert taking place simultaneously on the Community Centre car park.

The Ken Hughes Order of Merit- Rosemary Oulton

Ken Hughes

Ken Hughes

Following the  first presentation of the Ken Hughes Order of Merit last year, it was with great pleasure to the choir that in December 2014, Rosemary Oulton became our second recipient.

One  could say she was, and remains, a stalwart of the choir as the Award recognises the

50 years

that she has been a member of this choir – We hope there will be many more!

The Ken Hughes Order of Merit- Alan Hibbert

Those who knew KenHughes and his tremendous contribution to music and to our choir will understand our desire to keep his name  alive in our collective memory.

Late last year Alan Hibbert, our long standing Secretary announced his decision to retire. It was therefore decided  to create an award, “The Ken Hughes Order of Merit”. In a brief ceremony at Christmas Alan was given life long membership and became the first recipient of the Order. We wish him well and hope to keep in close touch with him over the coming years.

Alan has written in response, transcribed here (password protected)
